Ostrava CZE - In action from Friday morning's session at the 5th IAAF World Youth Championships, Jamaica's Nickel Ashmeade and Brazilian Rosangela Santos, the 100m silver medallists from Thursday, have booked places in Saturday's 200m semi-finals.

Ashmeade, who took the 100m silver in 10.54 seconds behind countryman Dexter Lee, was very easy in winning heat 7 of the Boys' 200m first round in 21.80 seconds.

However, Ashmeade will start the semi-finals as the fifth fastest qualifier behind Hiroyuki Kubota of Japan (21.31), Bermuda Harold Houston (21.67), Japanese Seija Clarke (21.76) and South African Dean Swart (21.78).

World leader and favourite, Ramone McKenzie of Jamaica took the 10th and final heat in 21.99 seconds.

Santos, who ran a personal best 11.46 in the 100m final behind Great Britain's Asha Philip, returned 24.96 for second in the 7th and final heat of the Girls' 200m.

Romanian Andreea Ograzeanu won heat 7 in 24.60, but American Chalonda Goodman (23.87) and Souheir Bouali of Algeria with a personal best 23.92 are the only sub-24 seconds qualifiers.

Heptathlon starts

Samira Burkhardt of Germany with 15.20 leads the qualifiers going into the final of the Girls' Shot Put. Belarus' Aliona Hryshko (14.91m), Rebecca O'Brien of USA (14.48m) and Germany's Sophia Kleeberg (14.23m) were the other automatic qualifiers.

In the Triple Jump qualification round, which saw eight of the 12 qualifiers doing personal best distances, United States' Christian Taylor leads the pack with 15.76m.

Stefan Tesng Ke Chen of Singapore (15.69m) and United States' Bryce Lamb (15.54m) have the second and third best jumps respectively.

Defending champion Romania's Bianca Perie (63.27m) and Yuliet Hernandez of Cuba (58.45m) are the top hammer throwers going into the final.

After two events in the Girls' Heptathlon, Katerina Cachova of Czech Republic leads with 1933 points ahead of team-mate Nikola Oqrodnikova 1889 points.
